4-H Goat Show

Show Date: Sunday Sept 14, 2008 @ 9:30am @ Show Ring
1. Open
to all 4-H Dairy Goat members from NH and Maine who are ages
8-18. 4-Her’s should
be familiar with the General 4-H Animal Rules found elsewhere in
this book.
2. Show
staff will conduct health checks on all animals before they are
unloaded.
3. Animals
must be on grounds by 8:00am.
Approval forms and papers will be checked at 8:30am.
Animals must remain on the grounds until 5:00 pm.
4. Registered
and recorded grades are eligible for show.
Youth who do not own any other dairy goat animal will be
permitted to show a non-recorded grade animal with I.D.
(tattoo) and is on an approved approval form.
5. No
horned animals will be allowed.
6. 4-Her’s
wishing to show in breed classes
MUST
show in their showmanship and fitting
classes.
7. There
will be a costume contest for a Rosette, no premium.
8. Show
Superintendent reserves the right to limit the number of entries
per class.
9. As
time allows Saturday evening,
4-Her’s will be invited to participate in a agricultural
scavenger hunt. This event will take place in the agricultural
area of the fair grounds and 4-Her’s must provide their own
adult chaperone.
10.
A Showmanship clinic will be presented on Saturday September
14th , in the evening following the pig scramble in the showring
to help prepare for Sundays Show.

Herd–
3 Does, any age, same breed, owned by 1 exhibitor.
Best udder–
One entry per exhibitor.
Herdsmanship–
To be judged according to the ADGA Herdsmanship scorecard. To be
eligible for Herdsmanship you must arrive Friday September 12th
, by 8:00 p.m. and remain on the grounds with your animals until
5;00 p.m. Sunday evening,
September 14th , 2008. .
Poster Contest–
Youth are encouraged to make an informative poster promoting their 4-H Dairy
Goat Project.
Posters will be displayed in the Poultry Barn during the
duration of the fair.
Contact paper is suggested to help protect the poster.
One poster per exhibitor. Premiums will be awarded.
Educational
-Youth are encouraged to create and exhibit a comprehensive Educational 4-H
Dairy Goat Show Display in the
4-H Exhibit Building that conveys a message, informs and
educates. Must be a
3-D exhibit that goes beyond an educational poster; can include
posters, samples, equipment, themes and sub themes of your
exhibit topic. One
premium will be awarded per exhibit.
Premiums will be awarded per the 4-H Exhibit Handbook
guidelines.
Youth are
encouraged to make an informative poster promoting their 4-H
Poultry Project.

4-H Sheep Show

Show Date: Sunday 21, 2008 @1:00pm ~ Show Ring
1. This show is open to enrolled 4-H sheep
project members from New Hampshire and Maine who are age 8 to
18. 4-Her’s must
follow the General 4-H Animal Rules found elsewhere in this
book.
2. Show staff will conduct health checks on all
animals they are unloaded.
Inspections for animals arriving on show day will begin
at 7:00am.
3. All animals must be on the fairgrounds by
10:00am September 21 and shall remain until 5:00pm or close of
show.
Exhibitors participating in the Shepherds Class please
refer to Class 15.
4. Grade animals are not eligible for ram
classes. Grade males
will be shown the market lamb class.
Youth not having
purebred animals may show their grade ewes as “Commercial
Ewes”.
5. Market lambs must have a permanent
identification. This
number must be indicated on the approval form.
Market lambs are not eligible for breed classes.
6. Only one entry per class per breed will be
shown. Do not bring
more than one animal per class per breed.
Limited to two breeds per exhibitor.
7. All sheep must be clean and prepared properly
for the breed or function.
8. An animals used in lead-line or showmanship
must be shown in one of the other classes.
9. Halters are to be worn for showmanship classes
but are optional for type classes.
10. In all bred and owned classes papers must be
shown in the ring.
Entries in group classes must have been shown in
individual classes.

13. Exhibitors Flock- One Ram, One Yearling ewe,
and one ewe lamb owned by the exhibitor.
14. Breeder’s Flock– Either yearling ram or ram
lamb , one yearling ewe, and one ewe lamb.
Bred and owned by exhibitor.
15. Pair of Lambs– One Ram and one ewe bred and
owned by exhibitor.
16. Pair of Ewes- One lamb and one yearling, bred
and owned by exhibitor.
17. Get of Sire– Three animals bred and owned by
exhibitor.
18. Overall Ram Champion-
19. Market Lamb– May be grouped by weight.
20. Leadline-
May be split by skill level as in fitting and
showmanship. Each contestant must furnish a legible commentary
to the Show Superintendent by the August 22nd
entry deadline. 4-H Members must show their owned or leased
animal. Sheep must
be clean and correctly fitted for the breed.
All work in fitting and training must be done by the
exhibitor. Sheep are
shown in halters. No
coloring or covering of sheep.
Entrant and sheep should complement one another.
4-Her must wear a garment at least 70% wool and fabric
should be appropriate for garment.
Garment may be made by the 4-Her, purchased, or made by
another person.
Exhibitors will be judged using the standard NH 4-H Sheep
Leadline Scorecard.
Copies are available upon request from the Strafford County
Extension Office.
Leadline participants and sheep promote
4-H Sheep Clubs and the sheep industry.
21. Shepherds Class– Exhibitors will be judged
during the Fair on cleanliness of pen and pen area, cleanliness
and appearance of sheep, contribution to appearance of general
area, care of own animals, politeness and informative attitude
toward
public. Must arrive
by 5:00pm Friday and stay until close of show.
22. Costume Class– Divided into different classes
depending upon number of participants.
Award– Rosettes, no premium.
23. Comprehensive Educational Display
–(Requirements stated on page 53 (4-H Poultry)
24. Youths are encouraged to make an informative
poster promoting the 4-H Sheep Project.

4-H Pocket Pet Show
Saturday, September 20th @ 4-H Building
Entry Deadline is AUGUST 22nd!
1. Animals
must arrive at the 4-H Building by 8AM and must be removed
between 4:00 - 5:00 pm.
2. Animals
must be clean,
bright and alert.
3. Animals
must arrive in their own cage or aquarium. Please no oversized
cages. Limit size of aquaria to 20 gallons.
4. Judging
will take place from 9:00 am to noon and the exhibitor must be
present during judging. Entries will be judged on cleanliness
and health of animal as well as the cleanliness of the cage. The
Animals will not be removed from cages
during judging. The judges will also be judging the 4-H
youth’s knowledge of the animal and it’s care.
5. Trophies
will be awarded to the best novice and advanced exhibitor.
Rosettes will be awarded to the top entry in each
division. ( Divisions may be combined, depending on the
number of entries).
6. Participating
4-H youth do not have to stay with their animals after the
judging. A 4-H volunteer will monitor the animals. Visitors to
the 4-H building will be encouraged to vote for their favorite
Pocket Pet and this will be announced at the Awards Ceremony.
Awards Ceremony will take place at 3:00 pm at the 4-H
building.
7. Superintendent
has the right to limit the number of entries depending on space
availability.
