ENTRIES WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED ON

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 7TH, 1PM TO 6PM

MONDAY SEPTEMBER 8TH, 9AM TO 8PM

TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 9TH, 9AM TO 6PM

THE ONLY EXCEPTIONS WILL BE FOR CLASSES A & P

Class A will be accepted on either Thursday the 11th or

Friday the 12th by NOON

Class P will only be accepted on Wednesday the 10th by noon.

Products and articles exhibited must represent work completed since September 1, 2007. The members exhibiting must have been registered as a Girl Scout when the project was completed.  Note: Class B requires mats or frames for display as these can be hard to locate try to purchase prior to fair time.

SOILED OR DAMAGED ARTICLES WILL NOT BE DISPLAYED

Although the association does exercise as much care as possible, we assume no responsibility for loss or damage and exhibits are entered at member’s own risk. Any exhibits left after 5pm on September 22 will be disposed of. Only under these conditions will exhibits be accepted.

Judging starts promptly at 10 am on Wednesday the 10Th.

JUDGING AREA WILL BE CLOSED TO ALL PERSONS EXCEPT JUDGES AND SUPERINTENDENT’S STAFF!! 

All exhibits are judged on their own and not in competition with others. The only exceptions are the special awards which are obviously judged in competition with the others in their category.

JUDGES LOOK FOR CREATIVITY, QUALITY, SKILL INVOLVED AND AGE LEVEL.

 

Classes:

CLASS A~ FOOD: All entries for this class must be entered on Thursday or Friday by NOON!

SECTION A~ HOMEGROWN: Please provide enough vegetables or fruits to fill a paper plate so that comparison is possible. Remember the bigger is not always better.   Oversized zucchini will not be accepted.  Judges look for  even sizes with no bad spots. If you need to know specific quantities please contact Bev.

1. Fruits and Vegetables ~should be the same size and color.

2. Plants and Flowers~must be healthy.

SECTION B~ Baked Goods & Candy  *NO MIXES*

Must be made from scratch.  You must provide recipe on a 4 x 6 card.  This section includes breads, pies, cakes, cookies, brownies and candy.  Cake decorating should be done on Styrofoam forms.

CLASS B~ ART WORK *LIMIT THREE PIECES*: This includes paintings and drawings.  They must be at least 8 x 10 but should not exceed 20 x 24.  They must be matted or framed.   (ABSOLUTELY NO GLASS)

CLASS C~ QUILTING & SEWING: * LIMIT THREE PIECES* This includes sewing, quilting latch hook and  embroidery. 

CLASS D~ JEWELRY: *LIMIT THREE PIECES* You must provide your own displayer for your items.

CLASS E ~FOOD PRESERVATION: Canning ~no rusted rings, preservation products should be full, clean, well labeled and presentable. 

CLASS F ~SCULPTURE:  This includes pottery, paper mache, clay and any other form  of sculpture.

CLASS G~CANDLES:Hand made or decorated please specify. 

CLASS H~WOODCRAFTS:  **LIMIT ONE ENTRY** all projects made from wood and kits included.  Berube Award is from wood, project must be created from scratch and specifically no kits. See Special Awards.

CLASS I ~TROOP EXHIBITS: This must be a meal made and presented on a scheduled day-set up and presentation will be judged. Please build a place setting that can be used for display purposes. Please contact Bev to schedule your meal              presentation.  Must include enough food for 4 people.

CLASS J~ EARLY THEME EXHIBIT:  2008 THEME PLANTING SEEDS OF GROWTH

HINT: What grows: (plants, people, knowledge, faith etc)

CLASS K~ POETRY~ LIMIT THREE ENTRIES: This means POETRY!!!! This does not include stories, novels, plays or school projects. If used for school please remove all school grades or it will not be judged! They must be framed or matted at least 8 x 10, but no larger than 20 x 24.    NO GLASS!!!

CLASS L~ PHOTOGRAPHY: Photos must be at least 8 x 10, but not exceed 20 x 24.   They must be matted or framed!!  

CLASS N ~CERAMICS: Please include 4 x 6 card describing project from start to finish. This includes projects made from ceramic materials.   LIMIT THREE ENTRIES.

CLASS O~ SIMPLE MACHINES: This must be a machine that you have built that works and has a purpose.

CLASS P~ ADULTS ONLY: You must make an edible entrée for serving at least 8 people at the judges’ luncheon and it will be judged by judges from all over the Fair not just Girl Scout Judges.

CLASS S~ SOMETHING TO MAKE US LAUGH: This an be anything as long as it makes us laugh……photo, stuffed   animal, anything funny….enjoy this one and please make us laugh.   LIMIT ONE ENTRY!!!!!

ROCHESTER FAIR GIRL SCOUT SPECIAL AWARDS

Berube Memorial Trophy

The Berube memorial trophy is awarded to a Girl Scout age 5 to 18 and only for exhibits made with wood without a kit.

Norma’s Memorial Award

This award is given in memory of the “Mother of the Exhibition Building” to a Girl Scout age 5 to 18 and only for exhibits in ceramics.

Phil Frye Memorial Award

For Girl Scouts age 5 to 18~ for an innovative solution to a problem, state the problem then show us the solution step by step and bring us the finished product using only common everyday items.

For Adults~ Cooked foods~ you must pre-register with Bev no later than September 1, 2008. You must prepare and bring in an entrée for 8 on September 10, 2008 by 11 a.m. these will be served at the judges’ luncheon

Ethel Mazza Memorial Trophy

The Mazza trophy is for Adults only and will be selected from the quilt category.

Girl Scout Gold Medal Award

This award is given by Girl Scout Gold Award recipients.  There are no particular requirements. Judges are any Girl Scout Gold recipients who can be present on September 10, 2008 at 6 p.m. Please contact Bev if you would like to be a part of the judging team.
