Dept. 34 ~ Lumberjack Competition

General Rules:

1. Contestants will strive to project a professional atmosphere at all times.  The Head Judge or any acting official will automatically disqualify contestants who do not conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner.

2. Only competitors competing in the event will be allowed in the competition area at the time of the event.  No family members, friends or pets will be allowed in the competition area at any time.

3. Decisions of the Judges will be final in any and all matters pertaining to the contest and its rules.

4. No contestant may enter any event more than once.

5. The specific rules of each event will be explained at a competitors meeting just before the start of the contest.  All questions will be answered at this time.

6. No chainsaw may be used more than once in any event or in more than one event.   Bars and chains will be reused in each event, but the contest will be held up waiting for competitors to make the switch.

7. Chainsaw Classes 1 and 2 must be “stock appearing” chainsaws.  There are no limitations on the Super Modified Saw Class.

8. The official and final results of the competition will be announced after the event with the presentation of awards.  After the awards for each event, the overall champion and runner-up will be announced with presentation of awards.

9. All events begin with the word “GO”.  Jumping the gun before the word “GO” in any event will result in disqualification. 

10. Alcoholic beverages will not be allowed in the competition area.  Any contestant in violation of this rule or under the influence of alcohol will be disqualified.

11. All events will be video taped.  The video tape will be for the review of the head judge only.

12. Competitors must confirm registration by 11:30am the day of the event.

13. Entry Fee: $5.00 per event, or $25.00 for five or more events.

14. Both competitors must pre-register for the two person events and pay an entry fee.  Registration Forms must be in by   Friday August 17, 2008,No entries will be accepted after this date.  Request to compete in additional events after August 17, 2008 will not be accepted.  Rules and other pertinent information will be mailed out after your registration is received. 

 

Individual Event Rules:

 

1. Bow Saw– Each Contestant will be scored on the time it takes to cut off two(2) complete sections from a 8”x 8” pine timer.  Cuts must be between lines established by judges.  Time starts on “GO”.

2. Two Person Crosscut– Each two person team will be scored on the time it takes them to cut off two(2) complete sections from a 8”x8” pine timer.  Cuts must be made between lines established by judges.  Time starts on “GO”.

3. Jack and Jill Crosscut– Each man and woman team will be scored on the time it takes them to cut off two(2) complete cuts from an 8”x8” pine timber.  No man or woman may go more than once in the event.  Time starts on “GO”.

4. Log Rolling :  Each two person team will be scored on the time it takes them to roll a log from two starting stakes and back to the starting point using only peaveys or cant dogs.  The log must rest against stakes a both ends of the course with wood showing beyond each stake.  Rules will be explained o each team before they begin to roll.  Hands and feet may not be used to roll the log.  Time starts on “GO”.

5. Horizontal Chopping: Each contestant will be scored on the time it takes him/her to chop completely through an 8”x8” pine timber.  Timbers will be drawn.  There will be 2”x 4”’s available for contestants to build stanchions. Time starts at “GO”.

6. Axe Throwing: Center of bull’s eye should be approximately 60 inches from the ground with five scoring areas.  The bulls eye shall score five (5) points, the next outer are four (4) points, the next outer are three (3) points, the next outer area two (2) points, and the next outer area one (1) point.  One practice throw will be allowed.  Each contestant will have three (3) throws –all to count.  Axe needs only to cut outer edge of line scoring area to win points of that area.  If both blades stick, no score will be given.  Contestants must stand behind the line 20 feet from the base of the target.  The axe must be double-bitted at least 2 1/2 pounds, and at least 24 inches over all length handle.  Face of blade shall not exceed six (6) inches.  Ties will be thrown off for the first five- (5) places.  Men compete only in men’s axe throw.  Women compete only in women’s axe throw.

 

7. Chainsaw Classes: 4.5 ci and under and over 4.5 ci

A.  Stock appearing saws

B.  Three (3) complete cuts– down, up, down, at one station

C.  Cuts to be made between lines, within six (6) inches of wood.  Cross of line will mean disqualification.

D.  All cuts on 8”x8” pine.

E.  The same saw may be used only once in the event.  One saw per person.  Saw used only once, which means it, can not move to the next class.  Saws will be tagged and saw brought to line without a tag, or a tag already cut will  not be allowed to run.

F.  All covers must be in place.

G.  One-minute warm-up time prior to start.

H.  Saws on ground NOT running hands on wood.

I.  Time starts on “GO”.  No starting ahead of time or you will be disqualified.

J.  Safety chaps and eye protection MUST be worn.  

8. Super Modified Saws:

A.  Three (3) complete cuts– down, up, down, at on station

B.  Cuts to be made between lines, within six (6) inches of wood.  Cross of line will mean disqualification.

C.  All cuts on 8”x8” pine.

D.  The same saw may be used only once in the event.  One saw per person.  Saw used only once, which means it, can not move to the next class.  Saws will be tagged and a saw brought to line without a tag, or a tag already cut will not be allowed to run.

E.  One-minute warm-up time prior to start.

F.  Saws on ground NOT running, hands on wood.

G.  Time starts on “GO”.  No starting ahead of time or you will be disqualified.

H.  Safety chaps and eye protection MUST be worn.

I.  Saws must have a working sprocket cover.
