What is Pari-Mutuel Wagering?

Simply stated, it means betting among the patrons with the track acting as agent or broker, deducting a percentage fixed by the New Hampshire State Law.

 

You do not bet against the track, but against each other. Management has no in­terest in which horses win or lose. The odds and payoff prices are determined by the public. For example: When you purchase a ticket on a horse, you and all those who also wager on this choice are betting against other patrons who selected other horses in that race. After your horse has won and the race is declared official, you and all winning ticket holders collect a proportionate share of the money wagered on the race. The more winning tickets, the more the total pool must be divided. On the other hand, when you wager on a "longshot," your return or payoff price will be greater because of fewer winners to divide the pool.

PLACING YOUR WAGER AT ROCHESTER FAIR is as EASY AS A-B-C

The most sophisticated tote system to be found anywhere is now at Rochester Fair. This computerized system allows fans to bet and cash at any window. It is as easy as A-B-C.

All one has to do, in the following order, is:

A-  AMOUNT - state to the teller the AMOUNT you wish to wager;

B- BET TYPE - the bet type you want: Win, Place, Show, Daily Double, Quiniela, Perfecta, or Trifecta; and then

C - CHOICE of horse or horses you want to wager on.

 

THE DAILY DOUBLE

This is one of the most popular attractions of the program. To win the Daily Double, you must correctly pick the winners of both the first and second races.

 

THE EXACTA BET

You must select, in the exact order of finish, the two horses that finish first and second in the designated races.

 

THE QUINIELA BET

You must select the first two finishers in the designated race. Unlike the perfecta where the finishing order must be exact, the quiniela winner cashes if the selected two horses finish in either order, as long as they are first and second.

 

TRIFECTA

To win, you must select the first three horses in precise order. Your first selection must win, second must place and third show to win the Trifecta.

 

 

HOW TO WAGER
 

When placing wagers with the mutuel tellers, give them the amount of money you wish to wager, the type of wager and the horse's number.

WIN:             Horse finishing 1st.

PLACE:         Horse finishing 1st or 2nd.

SHOW:         Horse finishing 1st, 2nd or 3rd.

 

EXOTIC

QUINIELA

~ Pick two horses to finish 1st and 2nd, if they finish in either order, you win!

EXACTA    

~  Pick two horses to finish 1st and 2nd. This time the horses must finish in the exact order you picked them in.

TRIFECTA

~   Pick three horses to finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The three must finish in the order in which you wagered.

WIN, PLACE. SHOW -All Races Minimum bet – $2.00*

If you bet to WIN, you collect if your horse finishes FIRST. If you bet to PLACE, you collect if your horse finishes FIRST or SECOND. If you bet to SHOW, you collect if your horse finishes FIRST, SECOND or THIRD.
 

DAILY DOUBLE- Races 1 & 2 Late Double - Varies  Minimum bet – $2.00*

To win a double, you must combine the WINNER of the FIRST designated race and the WINNER of the second designated rate on a single ticket. This bet must be purchased prior to the FIRST race.
 

QUINIELA -All Races  Minimum bet – $2.00*

To win a QUINIELA, you must select the horses that finish -FIRST-and SECOND in a race in ANY Order on a single ticket.
 

PERFECTA -All Races Minimum bet – $2.00*

To win a PERFECTA, you must select the horses that finish FIRST and SECOND in a race in exact order-on a single ticket.
 

TRIFECTA -All Races  Minimum bet – $2.00*

To win a TRIFECTA, you must select the horses that finish FIRST, SECOND, and THIRD in exact order on a single ticket.

Examine all tickets before leaving window. No tickets can be exchanged after leaving. Patrons are cautioned to hold all mutuel tickets until the race is declared official. No claim will be entertained for tickets thrown away, mutilated, of destroyed.

PERFECTA & TRIFECTA COMBINATIONS

Perfecta Box - enables you to combine on one ticket all possible perfecta combinations involving two or more horses. You win a PERFECTA BOX if any two of the selected horses in the PERFECTA BOX finish FIRST and SECOND. A $1.00 PERFECTA BOX using three horses costs $6.00. Winning $1.00 PERFECTA BOX tickets pay one-half the posted perfecta price (which is based on a $2.00 bet) Example: "$1 Perfecta Box on 1-2-3" costs $6 Combinations held; 1-2, 1-3, 2-1, 2-3, 3-1, 3-2

Trifecta Box - enables you to combine on one ticket all possible Trifecta combinations involving three or more horses. You win a TRIFECTA BOX if any three of the selected horses in the TRIFECTA BOX finish FIRST, SECOND and THIRD.
